Attributed to the architect João Antunes (1642–1712); painter: Lourenço da Cunha (active 1740–1743)
The origins of the cult date to the 15th century; most of the buildings date to the 17th and 18th centuries. A pilgrimage sanctuary with a U-shaped floor plan, it was created around pilgrim’s lodging houses that formed a square. The respective church, to which the lodging houses belonged, was at the far end of the square.
