About the Museum
This sculpture is a good example of the baroque technique of Bolognese terracotta. Terracotta bas-reliefs were intended as proper paintings, framed and hanging from the walls, only lacking polychromy. The figures are scattered on different planes, from the foreground where they are nearly three dimensional to the background figures, more drawn than sculpted.
